31 Jul School project with Schmidtea mediterranea
I used Planaria (Schmidtea mediterranea) to monitor the effect of paclitaxel on the regeneration of wounds. Planarians were incubated in different concentrations of Paclitaxel and underwent bisection to asses the regeneration.
This sadly resulted in full regeneration by all of the planarians regardless of the paclitaxel concentration.. I also preformed flow and cell culturing. The cell culturing and the flowcytometry with the CHO and Hela cells resulted in no differences between the lowest and highest Paclitaxel concentration. A conclusion could be that the Paclitaxel was old and probably degraded..
But I think that planarians are very easy and nice to work with and their regeneration is very interesting!
