The Planaria Regeneration Box provides worms of the regenerative flatworm species Schmidtea mediterranea, culture medium, and all consumables required to perform a simple regeneration experiment. It also allows to join the Regeneration-Challenge. This box is ideal to explore and teach topics such as animal diversity, asexual reproduction, model organisms, regeneration, stem cells, …

The Planaria Regeneration Box provides:

  • 20 individuals of the asexual strain of Schmidtea mediterranea
  • 1 liter of culture medium
  • 40 plastic pipettes
  • 6 blades
  • 30 Petri dishes

Veal liver, required to feed the worms, is not provided as this can spoil. It can be bought at the local butcher or market.

With this box you can set up a small culture of worms to observe fission and naturally occurring regeneration, perform a simple regeneration experiment, and join the regeneration challenge.

More information and the required protocols can be found on the website.

You can join the Regeneration-Challenge by uploading your results on the Interact-page of the website. On that page you can also ask questions which will be answered by scientists, share your experiences, and give us feedback.
